Ather Energy seems to be gearing up for its next big move in the electric two-wheeler space. Recent spy shots reveal that the Ather 450X Gen 4 is currently undergoing road testing, hinting at potential upgrades in both range and performance.
This development has stirred curiosity in India’s EV community, especially as competition heats up with new players and feature-loaded models entering the market almost every quarter.

What the Spy Shots Reveal
The test mule spotted on public roads doesn’t look drastically different from the current 450X at first glance. However, keen observers have pointed out some interesting cues. The rear section of the scooter appears to have been slightly reworked, possibly to accommodate a larger battery pack. This could translate to longer riding range, something that Ather users and enthusiasts have often demanded, especially for inter-city commutes or extended urban usage.
The under-seat area also seems slightly bulkier, adding weight to the theory of a bigger battery or modified chassis components for better stability. The company might also be tweaking the thermal management system, which would help the battery handle higher loads more efficiently in hot Indian climates.
Likely Improvements: Range & Speed
Ather has been consistent in pushing performance boundaries in the Indian EV scooter segment. The Gen 4 version is expected to offer a range boost, possibly crossing the 150 km mark on a single charge under real-world conditions. The current 450X Gen 3 offers around 105–110 km of practical range. If these new updates deliver as expected, this could mark a significant jump.
Performance-wise, there’s speculation about upgraded torque output and top speed, although Ather has always prioritized instant acceleration and smart riding modes over raw top-end figures.
